WATER IN A SPINNING SPHERE

hydrostatics

Description of the device

Device demonstrates the result of setting water particles in rotary movement (spherical motion).

Phenomenon

When the sphere spins quickly, all liquid inside it moves up the walls of the sphere. It’s the effect of centrifugal force that occurs in rotating systems and depends on rotation speed. Such a system works also as a lens. When you look through the liquid moving up the walls of the sphere, you can see an upside-down image.

How to use it

Set the impeller in slow rotary movement by slowly turning the crank. Gradually increase the impeller’s rotation speed. Observe the liquid’s behavior.
